Hitler was not exactly a racist notwithstanding the fact he was a vicious anti-semite. He was a fanatical nationalist possessed of a searing hate for his nation’s enemies. Speaking to army officers in 1944, Hitler said, “This Volk of ours. . .is not to be identified with a race. . .Volk and race are not the same. . .the Volk is very often composed not of one race but of two, three, four, or five different racial kernels.” A year later he said, “We use the term Jewish race as a matter of convenience, for in reality and from the genetic point of view there no such thing as the Jewish race.”
